From Reims, capital of the kings of France, a visit to its cathedral, its basilica and the palace of Tau is essential before joining the 50,000-hectare Reims mountain Regional Natural Park, dotted with forests, vines and villages of character including Verzy, famous for its “faux” legendary trees with strange shapes. A little further on, the pretty Saint-Pierre d'Hautvillers abbey in its green setting and 30 minutes away, Verneuil and the superb Boursault castle, a Renaissance jewel. As you climb, you can admire the magnificent panorama of the valley from the charming flowered village of Champillon, backed by the forest and overlooking the vineyard. Epernay is profiled ...
